Cybercrime targets Aussie Farmers Direct

Yet another Australian business has fallen victim to cybercrime, where the personal details of over 5000 customers were compromised.

Hackers were found to have breached the systems at Aussie Farmers Direct, in an attempt to blackmail the business for money, before they released the private customer data online.

Unfortunately this example isn’t an isolated incident, and cybercrime is the reality of operating a business in this day and age. The cyber-attack on Aussie Farmers Direct is yet another to add to the list, following other significant data security breaches for both Kmart and David Jones – all within the last month.

Cybercrime is on the rise and poses a very real threat to all businesses, large or small. In a recent report published this year (2015), The Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) revealed a 20% increase in cybercrime over the last 12 months. This unnerving figure highlights the fact that Australia “ranks as one of the most hacked countries in the world”.

If you are a business that stores ANY client information, you should seriously consider investing in Cyber Liability Insurance. A Cyber Insurance policy can help insulate you against the damaging financial and reputational implications that data breaches can bring about.
