More than 60,000 property owners will save an average of $260 a year because of changes made to Fire Services Levy laws reported the Herald Sun. Treasurer Michael O’Brien told the Herald Sun he hoped this would be a win for consumers.
The content of this article was somewhat confusing for us at Whitbread as the Fire Service Levy was abolished on 1st July 2013 as explained in our post in March 2013.
Property and land owners are now charged a levy payable with their council rates.
Since 1 July 2013 property policies, such as home, short term rentals, tenanted and strata properties have not had a Fire Service Levy applied to premiums.
